A Kumasi based group; Concerned Youth of Kumasi is calling for the head of Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu over the Central Market fire which destroyed wares worth several thousands of cedis.
Wild fires at the Central market is an incident that has recurred several times many people are beginning to lose count.
The group believes the Mayor, within whose purview it falls to fix the recurrent market crisis is not doing much beside the usual ritual of visiting and “sympathizing with the victims”.
“We say the outbreaks that have cost us several billions of cedis in the Past years till now are preventable and successive Mayors of Kumasi know this”, the group said in a statement signed by convenor of the group; Krobea Asante.
The group is even more incensed about the mayor’s warning about cooking at the market.
“Hon Kojo Bonsu Was there to sympathise with the traders and to our amazement he warned that henceforth anyone caught cooking in the market at nights would be arrested. So since when did he know that cooking in the market at nights could spark fire?”
