Two Canadian women are believed to have been kidnapped in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital and taken to an unknown place, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.
The young women, who are said to be part of a volunteer group working in Ghana, were reportedly kidnapped on Monday night near the Vienna City Restaurant at Ahodwo, a residential area in Kumasi.
The victims, with one identified as Lauren, were forced into a waiting car by their abductors after stepping out of their apartment at Silver Spring Avenue at about 8:30 pm.
The kidnappers have not contacted the victim’s relations, who have since lodged a complaint with the Ridge Police Station for swift action even though the police in the region have not commented on the matter.
In April 25, an Indian businessman, Om-Prakash, 31, was kidnapped and held by the gangsters who demanded ransom of $500,000 from his family.
He was later rescued by police officers who raided an apartment at Akukobon, near Parkoso in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality.
According to police, the victim’s family paid no money to the suspects who managed to escape arrest.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Mr Om-Prakash was pushed into a car by the kidnappers after he got down to check his car tyre that was said to have deflated.
Reports indicated that the kidnappers pulled a gun on him, slapped and pushed him into a waiting car.
According to reports, the suspects gave him a mobile phone, which he used to call his family.
Police tracked down the location through the phone’s signals.
In the latest case, the Canadian nationals are said to be in touch with police to rescue Lauren and her other colleague, who are on an exchange programme with the Entrepreneurship Department of the Kumasi Technical University (KTU).
