The heavy rainfall with strong winds that swept through Atomfourso, near Seikwa, in the Tain District, has left more than 200 people displaced.
A total of 34 houses were completely destroyed by the rainstorm.
Mr. David Kwame Amankwah, the District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said two teenagers were hurt by falling debris.
He did not give their names but said they were sent to the Seikwa Health Centre for treatment.
Mr. Amankwah described the extent of damage as “huge” and said the immediate priority of the organisation was to mobilise relief support for the victims.
A 90-year old woman, Madam Yaa Badu, whose six-bedroom house collapsed under the impact of the severe rainstorm, appealed to the Government to assist her to re-build the house.
The chief of the town, Nana Ekye Nsowah-Adjei, said only people with requisite skills should be engaged to construct buildings.
He also suggested to the Department of Rural Housing to help design low cost houses that could withstand strong winds to prevent the recurring disaster at the onset of the rainy season.
