The death toll in Saturday’s building collapse at Cantonments in Accra, has now come to three, with 20 others rescued.
Rescue workers including the police, military, National Disaster Management Organisation and others picked two more bodies Sunday after Saturday’s report of one dead. Rescue operations are still ongoing to get to the bottom of the rubble from the four-storey building.
It is suspected a number of the victims are Togolese. Police sources claim some of the workers alerted their supervisors of clear defects in the structure but some waved it off and attempted to reinforce it with scaffolds so the workers, some of who slept at the site, could continue to work.
Of those rescued, seven are still on admission at the Police Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital.
