Two soldiers and a civilian have died with several others injured in an accident that occurred at Peki-Wudome in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region.
Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Peki District Police Commander, DSP Jonas Kofi Agbevam, said the deceased soldiers, Cop Patrick Akosa and Private Herford Amevor and the civilian driver, Francis Amofa Adzade from the Base Workshop, Burma Camp, were returning to Accra on board a Toyota Hiace with registration number 14GA 96 from a funeral.
He said on their way, a Benz Bus with registration number GW 9683W coming from the opposite direction and heading north, suddenly moved into the lane of the soldiers on the asphalted narrow portion of the Asikuma Junction to Kpeve of the Eastern corridor road.
He said attempts by the driver of the Hiace to signal the Benz driver Samuel Akufo to return to his lane failed leading to their collision in the process.
The District Commander could not immediately tell what informed the Benz Bus driver to change lanes, but suspected he was competing for a better portion of the road.
The two soldiers and the civilian driver were together rushed to the Peki Government Hospital with other injured passengers on board the Benz Bus, but were later pronounced dead. The corpse of the three have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue while the driver of the Benz Bus is in a critical condition.
