Mr Opoku Nyarko, lecturer at the Otec School of Journalism and Communication Studies presenting an award to the overall beat student, Mathias Agbo at the passing put ceremony last Sunday
A total of sixty-two students representing the 2016 and 2017 batch from the Otec School of Journalism and Communication Studies passed out last Sunday.
Receiving their deserving certificates at a colorful ceremony at the Ghana National Association of Teachers Hall (GNAT) in Kumasi, the graduating students comprising of 36 males and 26 females shared fond memories of their time at the famous media training school.
Five students in the 2016 batch obtained honors in the second class upper division of the diploma course while19 had second class in the lower division as two students chalked a pass in the course they pursued.
Mathias Agbo obtained a first class honor in the 2017 batch as 11 others had honors in second class upper division. 22 students however had honors in the second class lower division with Addai Frederick gaining a pass in the course pursued.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Mathias Agbo, the overall best student said the kind of tuition and training given them at the school will stand them in good stead as they move on in life.
He noted that the training was rigorous but one that has adequately prepared him and his friends to take on the world as they step out.
‘’I can confidently say that OTEC School of Journalism has provided us the opportunity to be the best in the fields we trained and stepping out we are sure to do well in life as we work to bring glory to the school and lecturers’’, Master Agbo stated.
GUEST OF HONOR:
Addressing the congregation and the graduating students earlier, Reverend Adu Gyamfi, Owner of True Vine Hotel, a popular recreational center in Kumasi admonished the graduates to exemplify the traits of good media persons wherever they find themselves in life.
Rev Gyamfi said the practice of journalism comes with a lot of challenges which demands discipline and determination.
He urged them to continue to display the talent they exhibited while in school and practice with finesse what they have been taught at the school.
The guest speaker reminded the house that men and women needed God foremost in life so that their steps would be guided by him all their days.
‘’I am confident that with the attributes of humility, good character and in-depth knowledge of the field of journalism you will excel as you move on with your life’’, Rev Gyamfi stressed.
ADMINISTRATOR:
Ms Deborah Oppong Twumasi, administrator of the school charged the graduating students to continue to fly high the flag of Otec School of Journalism.
She commended the school staff, lecturers and resource persons for helping to instill discipline into the 62 graduating students.
She revealed that the school has now gained the right to be affiliated to the National Board for Professional and Technician Examination (NAPTEX), Accra.
Having been established on the 1st of March, 2003 under the authorization of the late Bright Oppong Twumasi, founder of Otec FM, the school has churned out excellent products such as Akosua Ago Abaogye of Peace FM fame as well as Andy Dosty, a famous radio personality and many others.
HONORARY AWARDS:
Receiving some honorary certificates were staff and members of the school administration as well as board.
Notable among them were Collins Kankam Kwarteng, Head of School, Alfred Kwaku Armooh, Assistant admin and registrar as well as Mathias Opoku Nyarko, lecturer.
