One person is confirmed dead and another in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following a scuffle between two factions at the Ashanti regional office of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The two were fired upon when the National Chairman of the NDC; Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and the General Secretary; Johnson Asiedu Nketia met with regional party Executives in the region.
Sources within the party tell rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi the scuffle ensued when a member of the Hawks (a pro-NDC vigilante group) moved from their canopy to another canopy where the NDC’s taskforce members were also gathered.
The cause of the misunderstanding remains uncertain.
Meanwhile a statement issued by the party shortly after the incident also gave a different account insisting that the shots were fired by “some men on Motorbike wielding guns…shot indiscriminately and sped off”.
The party has called on the Police to “carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and bring the perpetrators to book”.
Police from the Ashanti regional Police command are already investigating the matter.
