Health Authorities in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti region are worried about the dominance of malaria as far as OPD cases are concerned in the area.
The District Health Director of the Afigya Kwabre District Health Directorate; Mrs. Anna Omane disclosed this journalists during their 2018 annual performance review meeting held last week.
She says majority of patients who were admitted at the various health centres in the Afigya Kwabre District were suffering from malaria.
She also revealed that 30 percent of patients who visited the various health centres last year were infected with malaria.
She disclosed that awareness creation exercises were going to be stepped up in order to bring down the trend. She mentioned measures to encourage the use of insecticide treated bednets as one of the primary measures and also hinted at a partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency to check sanitation related issues in order to fight the parasite.
She however lamented that a lack of vehicles for outreaches, monitoring and supervision coupled with financial constraints are challenges they face in their quest to improve the health of the people in the area. She is therefore appealing to authorities to assist them.
