Agogo Police flout court order, release “criminal”

Ghana Crime News-The Agogo Police Commander, ACP James Jerry Aveka despite a magistrate court’s order to hold one notorious thug, Akili Bobo in custody has set him free.

This action is contrary to the remand order the court gave Thursday morning after hearing the case in which the suspect is alleged to have assaulted one Yaa Akyiaa in the streets of Agogo.

In an explicit ruling, the magistrate court remanded the suspect to reappear in court on the 13th of August, 2018.

This followed the inability of the victim, Yaa Akyiaa to appear in court for trial to begin in a case the victim is also accused of disturbing public peace.

INVESTIGATIONS:

Sources at the Agogo Police station told this reporter that immediately Akili Bobo was detained by the Police Thursday night some scores of people assembled at the station demanding the release of the suspect.

The source indicated the charged crowd sang and chanted war songs at the officers at the station for hours.

This, our source suspects put some fear into the officers who subsequently brought out Akili Bobo to ostensibly sit at the counter and take in fresh air.

Obviously seeing that their threats were yielding some results, our source said the crowd prevailed on the Police as Akili Bobo was this morning seen walking freely in the Agogo town.

FEAR:

Speaking to this reporter, Kwaku Appiah, a resident at Agogo expressed disappointment in the Agogo Police for their action.

According to him, once a court of competent jurisdiction had given a verdict to lock the suspect in cells there was no point releasing him to terrorize residents.

Afua Nyarko, a trader noted with disgust the attitude of the Police and pointed fingers at the MP, Andy Appiah Kubi as one behind the scenes putting fear in the Police Commander.

The MP, Afua indicated had previously caused the transfer of two Commanders and believes the current Commander is fearful of being transferred if he fails to play to the whims and caprices of the MP, who is also a Deputy Minister of State.
