The Ministry of Food and Agriculture(MOFA) has been recognized as the Most Accessible and Responsive Public Institution for 2017 by Ghana’s leading Policy Think Tank, IMANI Africa.
MOFA was among five top ministries to receive the award at a special ceremony held at Tang Palace Hotel on Wednesday evening under the Inspirational Public Sector Leadership Awards (IPSLA) 2017.
The Food and Agriculture Ministry has seen a massive resurgence over the last 11 months, owing largely to the advent of government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs Campaign currently being spearheaded by the Sector Minister, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The Sector grew by an average of 10% in the year 2017, placing third to Oil and Gas and Industry, respectively.
In a citation accompanying the award, IMANI said the Food and Agriculture Ministry “have been able to work hand-in-hand with the entire Ghanaian population, most especially farmers and have intensified education and cooperation through its implementation of the Planting for Food and Jobs Campaign”
The PFJ as a policy of the Ministry and Government of Ghana has been able to enrich the good farming community by giving them improved seeds and other farming implements and fertilizer with high subsidy.
