Less than 24 hours after Ursula Owusu, NPP MP for Ablekuma West reiterated her disdain for Ghanaians of northern extraction as well as Ewes, another leading figure, a member of the National Executive Council of the party, has been secretly caught on tape describing “Fantis as fool”.
Eugene Boakye Antwi, a key ally of twice defeated NPP flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo was caught on tape saying that the Hon.Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency, Isaac Osei, was a Fool because he is a Fanti.
“ He is a fool….it is the Fanti blood in him that is making him fool” he said to another colleague.
The secret recording was played yesterday on Muntie FM, a private Accra radio station and the tape left many wondering, worried and angry that a party which is supposed to be national in character is so steeped in tribal bigotry.
Akufo Addo himself opened the flood gates for NPP leaders to showcase their hatred for members of no-Akan ethnic groups with the now infamous “yen akan fuo” statement.
Meanwhile Eugene Antwi’s declaration that Fantis are fools reinforces the conviction among many Ghanaians that the NPP is essentially an Ashanti/Akyem hegemony, with a cabal being the leaders.
This cabal regards even many Ashantis and Akyem as important only for purpose of voting them into power.
