The camp of Alan Kyerematen, an aspiring flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is predicting a landslide victory ahead of the party’s Super Delegates Congress on Sunday, August 31, 2014.
According to campaign spokesperson Nana Ohene Ntow, the overwhelming support for Mr Kyerematen among the party’s rank and file is enough to cause a “tsunami in the NPP”.
The Super Delegates Congress in accordance with the NPP’s constitution is aimed at pruning to five the seven candidates vying to be flagbearer of the party in the 2016 presidential elections.
Other persons seeking to lead the party are the 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, former Attorney-General Joe Ghartey, former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Members of Parliament, Francis Addai-Nimoh and Kwame Osei Ameyaw.
All seven aspirants are sure of crossing the heddle to be part of the final five. The five will then contest the National Delegates Congress out of which one person would be voted for as the presidential candidate for the party.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Ohene Ntow was confident his candidate will sail through smoothly.
He noted that Alan Kyerematen is tried and tested and has the magic wand to win power for the opposition party which is hungry for power.
Nana Ohene Ntow said the ultimate objective of capturing political power should be the basis for all delegates to decide who should lead the NPP in 2016.
“It will be very suicidal for the NPP to lose the 2016 elections. We must therefore present a candidate preferred by not just NPP sympathizers, but also preferred by supporters of other parties and the floating voters,” he stressed.
