All African Games: We Owe 28 Hotels, Not 44 – Sports Minister

The Minister for Youth & Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has clarified that the Ministry owes only 28 hotels after the All African Games and not 44 as reported.

His statement comes after the Ghana Hoteliers Association threatened to sue the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) over the unpaid funds after accommodating guests for the 13th African Games in Accra.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, July 24, at the Ministry of Youth and Sports premises, Mustapha Ussif stated that the reports are false and assured that arrangements are being made to settle the remaining debts.

“We engaged 44 during the African Games and as we speak only 28 of them are being owed by the ministry, the rest have all been paid in full 100%. So, when I saw the report that over 48 hotels threatened to sue the ministry because of nonpayment of bills, those reports were not accurate.

“We have paid the remaining 28 hotels more than 40% and when we receive the funding they will be paid. When you have a budget doesn’t mean that you have money seated. As and when we receive money, the rest will be catered for,” he stated.
