Amnesty International has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to rally his colleague Presidents in the West African sub-region to ensure the release of the 200 kidnapped girls in Nigeria.
Millions of people across the globe are anticipating the release of the girls while some have resorted to social media platforms and protests to pressurize authorities to see to the release of the abducted girls.
Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Director of Amnesty International Ghana, Lawrence Amesu stated that “the kidnapping of the children can be classified as torture because the girls are going through severe psychological trauma”.
He acknowledged the efforts being made by President Mahama who doubles as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) but called for more efforts to be made to seek the release of the girls.
Meanwhile, members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council in a statement released on Monday have also condemned the abduction of the over girls.
They are also demanding that the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism be brought to justice.
