A 25-year-old farmer, David Atea, has been shot dead in his farm by Fulani herdsmen in Agogo in the Ashanti Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region.
Virgin City FM’s Adu Gyamfi reported that the deceased and his mother met some cattle eating up crops on their farm which they complained to a herdsman.
However, the Fulani man paid no heed to the cries and that led to heated exchanges between the deceased and his mother and the Fulani herdsman.
According to him, the Fulani herdsman pulled out a gun and angrily shot David in the chest.
He later died from the injuries which he sustained from the shooting.
His body has since been deposited at the Agogo Government hospital morgue for autopsy.
The suspected Fulani man is on the run.
The youth of Agogo threatened the Omanhene of the town, Nana Akuoko Sarpong to forget about celebrating his 40th anniversary as chief of the town if he fails to drive out the Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.
The angry youth led by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang at a well attended demonstration demanded that the chief who is a former member of the council of state, takes advantage of a 24 hour ultimatum given him and drive the herdsmen away.
The CEO of Asadu Waste, Edward Asadu has also had his 25 acre plantain farm set on fire by the Fulani men.
He called on the security agencies in the country to do something about the Fulani menace before hell breaks lose in Agogo.
Meanwhile, Agogo residents in Accra have also demanded that security agencies take steps to arest the situation.
