The Asankrangwa branch of the Ghana Revenue Authority has organized a tax educational forum for corporate organizations, small and medium enterprises, and other
stakeholders.
The move is to provide sufficient education on taxation and increase revenue mobilization within its catchment area.
Participants were educated on tax returns filing, rights and obligation of tax payers, sanctions under Acts 592 and 870 . Other topics treated included record keeping,
rent tax,and the re-registeration of current and prospective new tax payers.
Various speakers including tax expert; Vincent Adu Brown, Peter Abakah Davis, head of taxpayer services and District manager,Stephen Boadi took turns to impart the
knowledge of taxation to participants and urged them to help increase citizen’s understanding and payment of taxes.
Answering a question,Head of taxpayer services,Peter Abakah Davis described as unfortunate, the situation where Ghana continues to borrow from multilateral companies
at a higher interest rates for development projects due to Ghanaian’s low tax payment rate.
He believes increased tax payment and widening of the tax net in addition to the honest declaration of income by all Ghanaians would propel national development.
