NDC Youth in the Ashanti region have called on citizens “to go to work prepared in anticipation of any unlawful attack” by NPP youth.
A statement signed by Ashanti NDC youth Organizer Brogya Genfi indicates the NDC’s disgust for ongoing violent attacks on public servants and forceful seizure of public facilities and state installations.
There have been several cases of violent seizures and take-over of public facilities and state installations by youth believed to be NPP.
“Self-defence is paramount in situations like these”, the statement says.
The statement outlined some of the facilities being attacked and states that the action of the NPP youth threaten the peace of the nation.
“It is important to mention that these acts by the NPP are disrespectful to the solemn mood of Ashanti as we enter the mourning period of our late great Queen Mother, the Asantehemaa next week.”
The Ashanti NDC youth also called on the leadership of the NPP in Ashanti to call their youth to order since “a country is best governed in peace”.
“We also commend the Police service for their quick response in some of the instances. However, our expectation is that these hoodlums will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law. ”
“Again, we wish to draw the attention of the Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Inter-Party Dialogue Committees to take note of the development and act accordingly.”
“In the meantime, we encourage citizens who are carrying out their lawful duties to the state to go to work prepared in anticipation of any unlawful attack; Self-defence is paramount in situations like these.”

NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS
REGIONAL YOUTH WING – ASHANTI
For Immediate Release
11th January, 2017
ENOUGH OF NPP VIOLENT AND ILLEGAL CONDUCT IN ASHANTI
The Ashanti Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress condemns the violent attacks on peace-loving Ghanaians in Ashanti Region by some irate youth who are members of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
There have been several reported cases of seizures and take-over of public facilities and state installations by the NPP Youth.
1. Many operators of Public places of convenience have been attacked and operations taken over by the NPP.
2. Operations of several toll both in the region have been seized by the NPP
3. Extortion of collected monies from KMA tax collection officers working at the race course bus terminal and the Central Business District.
4. Locking up of offices of Youth Employment Agency, National Health Insurance Authority, National Disaster Management Organisation, etc.
We have in our possession a copy of a letter written by the NPP Constituency Secretary for Offinso South, Mr. Nsiah Boakye Andrews directing all School feeding Contractors, Caterers and Headmasters of public schools to suspend the activities of the Ghana School Feeding Programme in their schools.
These actions by the youth who are also members of the NPP’s militant group, the invincible forces continue to threaten the peace we have enjoyed all these years in the region. It also undermines the rule of law which underpins the democracy we have built as a country.
There is, indeed hard times ahead as these irresponsible conducts have received silent endorsement by the leadership the NPP and no authority seem concerned about the attacks of the NPP.
The early signals were initially ignored by all when immediately after the official announcement of the 2016 election results by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on Friday 9th December the NPP took to the streets to destroy properties belonging to NDC members and attacking innocent citizens.
Ashanti has been peaceful under the erstwhile NDC administration and we pray same is maintained under the NPP.
It is however sad that NPP has taken off with violence – showing their true colours even in this early stage of their administration.
It is important to mention that these acts by the NPP are disrespectful to the solemn mood of Ashanti as we enter the mourning period of our late great Queen Mother, the Asantehemaa next week.
We therefore call on the leadership of the NPP in Ashanti to call their youth to order since a country is best governed in peace.
We also commend the Police service for their quick response in some of the instances. However, our expectation is that these hoodlums will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
Again, we wish to draw the attention of the Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Inter-Party Dialogue Committees to take note of the development and act accordingly.
In the meantime, we encourage citizens who are carrying out their lawful duties to the state to go to work prepared in anticipation of any unlawful attack; Self-defence is paramount in situations like these.
Thank you and may God protect us all
Signed
Brogya Genfi
(Regional Youth Organizer)
