Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three suspected armed robbers.
These armed trio are said to have set their sights on inhabitants of the Nkawie and Nhyinahin area both in the Atwima Nwabiagya and Atwima Mponua Districts.
The suspects, Dramani Seidu, 24, Richard Bromyiwa, 25 and Joseph Gyimah alias Agyaku, 24 were arrested on Thursday 18th January, 2018 by the Nhyinahin District Police Command upon intelligence.
The suspects recently carried out a robbery operation at the Asanayo Forest on the Afepaye-Nhyinahin trunk road at about 4:30 am on Monday, 15th January, 2018.
Addressing journalist in Kumasi on the arrest, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Fred Adu Anim said the suspects wielding two (2) single barrel guns, laid ambush at the Asenayo Forest, fired and stopped a driver in charge of a 207 sprinter Benz passenger bus with registration number WR-844-X.
The driver who did not want to stop had no choice but to, after he realized the potential danger of not stopping.
DCOP Anim recounted how the three armed men robbed the driver and the passengers of their valuables and bolted into the forest.
“All three suspects admitted the crime in their caution statements to police and are currently in custody assisting in investigations.
Meanwhile, victims in the robbery attack have identified all three suspects as their assailants and have identified the mobile phones that were robbed from them during the robbery,” he added.
Police retrieved two (2) single barrel guns, two (2) BB cartridges, one (1) AAA cartridge, twenty (20) assorted mobile phones when their room was searched.
Other items retrieved from the suspects include; seven (7) wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a cash amount of Ghc1, 350, a lighter, a torch light and sachets of tramadol capsules.
The Deputy Police Commander assured of the command’s resolve to fight crime to the barest minimum and prosecute all criminals when arrested to serve as deterrent to other would be criminals.
