Ashanti Regional Minister Commends Asokwa Municipal For Massive Clean Up Exercise.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene has lauded the efforts of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly in dealing with filth.
Addressing various groups, as well as staff of the Assembly including those from the Environmental Department and Assembly Members that participated in last Saturday’s clean up exercise, Dr Amoakohene said the Assembly has shown seriousness towards making the Asokwa clean.
The Minister stressed that having the Municipality clean at all times was a shared responsibility between authorities and the people.
“I believe that we can defeat unsanitary conditions when authorities together with the people decide to show responsibility for same and by ensuring that surroundings in markets and other places are clean at all times”, the Minister stated.
Presiding Member:
Speaking to this reporter, Nana Yaw Wiredu, Assembly Member for Ahinsan-Estate Electoral Area and the Presiding Member (PM) of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, thanked the various groups and staff of the Assembly for participating in the clean-up exercise.
He also praised the Coordinating Director and the Environmental Department of the Assembly for providing logistics and support for the participants to do a clean job.
The PM suggested a periodic clean-up exercise so that they could instill that discipline in the people of Asokwa.
“I believe we should continue with such exercise every month so that we can instill the communal clean up spirit in the people of Asokwa”, the PM suggested.
Market Leader:
Chairman Kwame Afriyie, a leader at the Atonsu-Agogo Market, thanked the Regional Minister for the clean-up initiative.
He said putting a cleanup exercise as part of activities marking the month of April, which has been declared for the celebration of tourist sites, foods, and other cultural heritage in Ashanti, was laudable.
Chairman Afriyie also commended the traders, especially market women and men, for agreeing to close down their shops to take part in the cleanup exercise.
“First of all I thank the hard working Regional Minister, the Asokwa Municipal Assembly officials, as well as persons who showed up for the clean up exercise in this market and the other areas and I pray that this continues so we can have a clean Municipality at all times”, the market leader stated.
