Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon says government is factoring equity into its siting of model schools.
During a visit to Senior High Schools in the Amansie West District during the start of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, the regional minister told journalists though the schools are being set up countrywide, the initial concentration will be on places that need it the most and that have the capacity to utilize the infrastructure.

He revealed during his interaction with journalists that 274,225 candidates are writing the ongoing exams countrywide from 897 schools. Nationally, there are 667 exam centres.
For the Ashanti region, he revealed that 62, 119 candidates are writing the WASSCE from the region drawn from 177 schools. In all, there are 132 examination centres in the Ashanti region.
