Ashanti Regional Security Council imposes curfew on Tafo

police-armouredvehicleThe Ashanti regional Security Council as party of efforts to restore calm in Tafo have imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the town effective Wednesday 10th February, 2016.

This follows the outbreak of violence there on Wednesday over ownership of a portion of the Cemetery there. Muslims in the area are reported to have raised a fence to barricade their section of the cemetery; an action which was resisted by the non-muslim section of the community who tore down the fence. This led to violence and an uncomfirmed number of deaths as well as vandalism in the area.

A statement issued by the Security council however assures the public of safety and strongly urges compliance with the curfew directive.

“REGSEC is monitoring closely the measures put in place and would review the situation and issue further directives as the situation improves”, the statement said.
