General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito says he is ready to match the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) boot for boot as far their cocaine history is concerned.
General Mosquito was speaking to the Nayele Ametefe Cocaine saga and the various controversies surrounding it.
The two main political parties have politicised the issue pointing accusing fingers at each other over which of their respective governments when in power, best dealt with the illicit drug trade.
The Minority in Parliament, led by their leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, on Wednesday asked for a bi-partisan approach to the Nayele cocaine saga.
Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, addressing the news conference in Parliament, said responses from the Narcotics Control Board, the Communications, and Foreign Affairs ministers do not add up.
The group, therefore, recommended a total overhaul of NACOB and insisted that the drug bill that will turn NACOB into a commission should be submitted to parliament immediately.
But speaking to the issue in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ Asiedu Nketiah said the history of the NPP as far as drug trafficking is concerned cannot be compared to that of the NDC and so “if they want to do politics with the Nayele’s case; I am ready for them”
He said the arrest of Eric Amoateng, 10 years ago, for trafficking drugs is one that proves the NPP deals in drugs “however, when it comes to the NDC, there is nothing linking us because there is nothing which shows Nayele is part of us”.
Apart from daring the NPP to provide evidence that the NDC has a history of drug trafficking, General Mosquito also dared them to choose one person from within them to debate with him on the drug issue “and we will see who will win”.
Meanwhile, he has asked the NPP to apologise to the NDC for trying to link them to the Nayele Ametefe’s cocaine saga. According to him, “they are desperately trying to remove the cocaine tag on them…the best thing to do is for them to apologise…If that is the tangent they want to go on, we are ready”.
