ASOKWA NADMO OFFICIALS CONDUCT FIRE SENSITIZATION IN HOMES IN ASOKWA.

The Asokwa Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has for two weeks conducted a house to house education on fire prevention and mitigation.
The exercise which begun from the 17th to the 28th of January, 2022 was to create awareness on how to prevent the incidences of fires at homes and residences.
The program covered all the electoral areas in the Asokwa community including Ahensan, Atonsu, Agogo, Chirapatre, Gyinyase, Kaase, Oti, Kuwait, old Asokwa and others.
According to the Municipal Director of NADMO, Eric Nana Akosah, the next phase of the sensitization would be carried out on radio stations and information centres across Asokwa.
“We are determined to make Asokwa a community where zero home or house fires are recorded throughout the year by engaging residents and members of the communities within the municipality “, the Director noted.
OBSERVATIONS:
Mr Akosah said most residents had little idea about how to keep wares in conditions that would not spark fire.
The team, he revealed had to educate those they met at home on how and why to keep plugs and sockets in safe manners.
He noted that many had overloaded their sockets and extension boards with items that could easily spark fire.
“We surprisingly realised that the over-loading of sockets was a recurring thing in the homes we visited while others also sited gas cylinders close to their stoves, something that was serious to spark fires”, the Director stated.
COMMENDATION:
Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah commended the NADMO Director and staff for the outreach program.
He noted that such periodic education and sensitization was needed to inform residents on how to keep homes safe.
He also encouraged residents to abide by the education and information they had received from the team.
“I am happy NADMO with its staff is doing this sensitization because fire outbreaks are deadly and can set us back as a community if not checked”, the MCE stressed.
