Former President John Agyekum Kufour has urged Ghanaians to be cautious of the Ghanaian culture of shaking hands to avoid contracting the deadly Ebola virus.
He told listeners of Kumasi-based BOSS FM from Washington DC in America that greeting is part of Ghanaian culture, but said it also leads to Ebola outbreak.
He advised Ghanaians to desist from greeting people at funeral grounds and all other public gatherings, since Ebola can be transmitted through this practice.
“Let’s be careful with our culture. Let’s avoid handshake if we all want to live. We shall all die, but not through handshake.”
Former President Kufuor urged Ghanaians to be extra careful with the Ebola epidemic, which has already claimed over 4000 lives in West Africa, and urged Ghanaians to live in a healthy Environment.
He bemoaned the indiscriminate throwing of garbage at any place as bad habit, which should not be encouraged.
“Doctors are dying, much less we the people. The mode of transmission is serious. Let us be careful and avoid these handshakes and other activities which could expose us to the virus.
Touching on the need for Ghanaians to plan their family, he stated that the time has come for Ghanaians to give birth to kids they can adequately take care of, and stop bringing children into the world without taking proper care of them.
He explained that unplanned birth will always subject Ghanaians to hardships, with the Government also under pressure to secure money or help from abroad.
