Ghana News–The President and founder of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai has launched a fund aimed at making diagnostic procedures and treatment options for breast cancer care free at health centers across the country.
Currently, these procedures related to the breast are not covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Launching a short code for the project, Dr Wiafe Addai noted a click of 711*91 on the three major telecommunication networks will enable one to transfer one cedi to the ‘Save a Breast Fund’.
The Cancer surgeon said a research by her outfit discovered that late stage cases that are presented to the hospital are as a result of poverty.
This, she noted necessitated the launch of the fund to help address issues of poverty and other fund related matters.
APPEAL:
Making an appeal to the public, Dr. Wiafe encouraged the public to donate generously to save the lives of persons who cannot afford the fees charged for diagnosis.
Regular donations, she intimated will enable the hospitals treat early stage cancers and others that may have been reported late.
Breast cancer, the BCI President noted is curable when reported early, adding the fund will ensure those who report the disease to the hospital are given early treatment.
‘’Your one Ghana cedi donation can save a breast and a life and your regular donations can save hundreds whose diseases have not yet been reported to the hospital’’, Dr Wiafe Addai stated.
MOTIVE:
Enumerating the motive that informed the idea of a fund, Dr Addai noted the pain she goes through seeing women suffer from breast cancer.
This, she stressed urged her to reach out to the world to enable others who share same pain and passion support with what they have.
‘’We are each other’s keeper because we are closely and directly affected by each other’s acts and therefore the need to take everyone into consideration in our everyday endeavors’’, the BCI President reiterated.
