The Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Seth Panwum, has confirmed that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is 70% ready to host Ghana’s match against Sudan.
He made this statement during his appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Youth, and Culture on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
According to him, the pitch is in a condition that would meet the standards required for a CAF inspection and approval, enabling the stadium to host Ghana’s game in October.
“… No activities, other than sporting activities until such time that we can go claim pitch covers. It is not news when they go to other countries. Even Wembley is given out for concerts but they ensure that they protect the pitch with pitch covers.
So, as a country, I’ve had a conversation with the minister of finance through our sector minister to see how urgently, they can help us. Because we are also mandated to generate revenue our game proceeds are insufficient to fulfil the requirements put to us by members of parliament,” he stated.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman revealed that GH¢900,000 was generated from renting the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for church activities prior to Ghana’s match against Angola.
