Ghana Sanitation News-The Sanitation Committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) last Wednesday visited the Zoomlion Compost Site at Adegya to gauge the progress of work.
The site when completed will be able to collect all the refuse and garbage in the Metropolis as well as about five other Municipal and District Assemblies for processing.
Touring the site which is about 70% complete, the committee members in the company of Mr Samuel Ntumy, General Manager of the Compost Site expressed satisfaction at the rate of work.
Speaking to newsmen after the tour, James Nana Prempeh, Convener of the Sub-committee expressed delight at the opportunity to see things for themselves.
He promised to relay the information they have picked at the site to the general assembly and work to get feed-back.
‘’We as a sub-committee are determined to do our part to report all that we have seen here and help the workers operate at optimum level so that together we can all be beneficiaries of this laudable project under KMA’’, Nana Prempeh posited.
CHALLENGES:
Speaking to newsmen, the General Manager of the Compost Site, Samuel Ntumy said the site will be operational by the first quarter of next year.
This, he noted will also be dependent on the time they can have all their equipments fixed at the site.
The bad nature of the road leading to the Compost site, he revealed has delayed the progress of work at the site.
He, however, noted that the company is relying on the word of the Mayor, the Regional Minister as well as the roads minister who have promised to get the road in shape to allow Zoomlion to commence full operations.
‘’We are hopeful to commencing full time operations by the first quarter of next year and we are praying that the KMA and the Regional Minister work to get us assistance from the Roads Ministry to put our route from Kuntenanse to Adegya in good shape.
