The camp of Bukom Banku is threatening to drag the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to court for failing to sanction the much-awaited fight between Banku and John Napari originally scheduled for October 3.
The GBA last week cancelled the bout following a report by the Medical Committee of the authority declaring Napari unfit for the fight.
Meanwhile, Banku’s promotional manager, Bernard Fekyere, is demanding GH¢20,000 from the promoters of the bout, MCDON promoters as their share of the promotions, contract before they consider looking for another opponent.
But Alhaji Tofiq, a member of the sanctioning committee of the GBA, told the Graphic Sports that Banku’s manager, Abrahama Kotey Neequaye’s threats of suing the GBA had no basis.
He explained that the GBA recognised Super Entertainment as the promotional right holders of the boxer (Bukom Banku) and as such could not be sidestepped for MCDON in negotiations for a fight for Bukom Banku.
He challenged Mr Neequaye’s requisite qualification as a manager, saying he lacked the needed GBA License C to be a manager.
“Kotey Neequaye does not have a licence C, his old Licence C has expired and has not been renewed by the GBA and, therefore, cannot hold himself as the manager of Banku”, he stated.
Alhaji Tofiq urged him to partner Super Entrtainment for the right thing to be done to ensure the bout took place at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 3,
“We love to see new promoters and managers in the sport because it grows the sport and the GBA will continue supporting promoters and managers but they must not disregard the GBA statutes and structures”, he stressed.
