Oliver Barker-Vormawor
Activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has apologized to the Appointments Committee of Parliament after facing backlash over a social media post that suggested corruption among committee members. The post, which circulated widely, implied that members were accepting bribes from ministerial nominees.
On January 29, 2025, Barker-Vormawor appeared before the committee after being summoned. He explained that his post was not intended to defame the committee or its members. Instead, he said his comments were based on concerns raised by others, not accusations against specific individuals.
“I hold the committee in high regard and respect its constitutional role in vetting nominees,” he stated. “The post was never meant to accuse anyone of bribery, and I sincerely apologize for any misunderstandings or harm it may have caused.”
Barker-Vormawor denied the bribery allegations, emphasizing that he had actually praised the committee chair’s leadership. He clarified that his post, which had been edited several times, was a reflection of his broader concerns about vetting processes, not aimed at any particular member.
He further explained that he left the post online to maintain transparency and ensure an accurate record. The committee accepted his apology and acknowledged his clarification.
