Health authorities in the Ashanti region have encouraged residents who are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccinations to avail themselves and get vaccinated

Deputy Director in Charge of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service fears vaccine hesistancy ahead of the Christmas could spark a fourth wave of the virus

According to Dr Michael Rockson Adjei, the third wave of the virus is over in the region as active cases have stayed at 15 for the past five weeks

Although elated by the downward curve, he is sounding caution if the protocols are not adhered to a fourth wave could be recorded during the Christmas period

DETAILS:
The region has fully vaccinated only six percent of the targeted population

Dr Rockson Adjei disclosed the Directorate has received more Pfizer and Modena Vaccines to be distributed to all 43 districts

He assured of the efficacy of the vaccines and encouraged those not vaccinated to do so

STATISTICS:
A total of 20,313 persons have been infected with the virus out of which 382 died.

Ashanti Region needs to vaccinate 3.6million people who are residents and qualify for the inoculations.
