As part of the climax of COCOBOD’s 70th anniversary celebrations held at Jubilee Park, Kumasi on Monday October 2nd 2017; Strategic Securities Systems International Limited (3SIL) has pledged to award the best cocoa farmer a brand new fully solar powered 2-bedroom house. This house, which is part of the proposed “Akuafo Anidaso” housing scheme, has been specifically designed for cocoa farmers living off-grid in cocoa farming communities.
As the name of suggests, Akuafo Anidaso seeks to inject confidence and restore hope in cocoa farming communities by providing a housing solution that is powered with by the sun. The houses designed for the living style of farmers and built with available local raw material component, will be fully powered with a solar energy system. This initial concept was tested out and demonstrated at the 2011 Cocoa Producers Alliance (COPAL) day in Asante Effiduase. It was further refined and exhibited at the 2012 COPAL day in Swedru with strong endorsement from the cocoa farmers and other stakeholders.
This year’s event which coincided with World Cocoa Day was under the theme “Mobilizing for a sustainable Cocoa Economy”. The event which brought together all stakeholders in the Cocoa farming and processing sector was attended by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akuffo-Addo. Other dignitaries present at this event included President Outtarra of Ivory Coast, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Chairman of COCOBOD, Hackman Owusu Agyeman.
Speaking at this year’s event, the Chief Innovations Officer, Nana Konomah Boateng satated, “We all need to come together as partners to ensure that we help these farmers who give off so much to ensure we have a thriving economy.
