Corporate entities in the country are being called upon to actively support blood donation efforts as part of their social responsibilities.
This appeal was made by Head of the Transfusion Medicine Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital; Dr. Shirley Owusu Ofori.
She was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an annual Valentine’s Day blood donation exercise held by MTN Ghana Foundation.
Dr. Shirley Owusu Ofori believes Ghana will be able to meet her blood needs if other telcos and corporate organizations come on board blood collection efforts.
She explained that blood donation is a continuous process that should be sustained due to the fact that blood collected is perishable within a space of approximately one month.
She said her outfit was ever ready to partner with any institution that wants to help organize blood donation exercises to save lives.
She was full of gratitude to MTN Ghana Foundation for their commitment to stocking the blood bank and saving lives.
The Ashanti region’s leg of this year’s Valentine’s Day blood donation exercise was held at the St. Louis and Opoku Ware Senior High Schools in Kumasi.
General Manager for the Northern Business District of MTN; Nii Adotey Mingle said the target for this year is 3500 units of blood.
MTN Ghana Foundation has been holding the Valentine’s Day blood donation exercise for 9 years in a row and has received wide recognition for their contribution to the sustenance of life. He encouraged all well-meaning Ghanaians to make it a point to save a life by donating blood.
