The British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Jon Benjamin is suggesting two overarching approaches to minimizing the high level of corruption in the country.
He says to tackle corruption, we need to minimize the opportunities for it to happen through strong institutions with good systems that apprehend and bring to justice those who transgress”.
The British High Commissioner also emphasizes a culture which “unambiguously teaches that it is wrong to be corrupt and enable people to blow the whistle on corruption when they see it”.
“If a child grows up seeing his parents paying off policemen who stop them in their car or if that child gets used to a practice where a few banknotes are slipped in with homework or an exam to ensure better grades then the rot can set in very early.
The commissioner has observed policemen taking money from trotro drivers at impromptu road-blocks near his residence.
