Bryan Acheampong F’dation trains 315 people on animal husbandry

Director of Development of the organization, Eric Nyarko, disclosed that the first batch of the training began in April 16th and will end April 26.

“We have so far trained 315 people in the District on the best farming practices in animal husbandry to increase the production and household incomes.
The 10 days training saw top notch resource person from the College of Tropical Agriculture, handle various aspects of the training sessions.

Mr. Nyarko said the programme which is currently being implemented in 16 communities, aims at improving the livelihood of the people in Kwahu East.
The beneficiary communities were drawn from all communities within the district.

“They were able to increase their knowledge and adopt good business practices in animal husbandry for both economic value and local consumption,’’ the Director said.

The people were also trained on methods of records keeping, working in groups and cooperatives for greater achievement of set objectives.

The training encouraged women especially on how to increase production of snails and rabbitry rearing.
Participants were taken through how to identify certain health challenges associated with rabbit, snail and grass cutter.

Head of animal science department at the College of Tropical Agriculture, Mr. Tweneboa Kodua also showed basic management practices of the diseases.
One of the significance of the training is to engage women in providing supplementary feeding in addition to their natural feeding methods.

Trainees will be given post training monitoring support for effective implementation of the new skills acquired from the training.

 

Madam Elsie Odonkor, head of the Economic Empowerment Team at BAF urged trainees to organize themselves into useful groups in order to receive support.

She said the programme intends to reach out to 1000 poor people with improved access to inputs and finances, to increase productivity and income amongst people in Kwahu East.
