The Bureau for Public Safety is asking the various local assemblies along the beaches to take charge and ensure that the beaches come under identifiable management.
The call follows the death of nine persons believed to have drowned during the Easter festivities when many people thronged the beaches to have fun.
The bodies were washed ashore along the Kokrobite, Bojo and Sakumono beaches near Accra.
Speaking to Accra based Live FM, an official at the Bureau for Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwadaa called for safety measures to secure the perimeters of the beaches to protect those who patronize them. He further said it must be made mandatory for all beaches in the country to have life guards.
He emphasized that “it is important for the state and district authorities to regulate the sale of liquor around the shores”
Nana Yaw Akwadaa also stress the need for the police to investigate the cause of the deaths to ascertain whether they actually drowned.
