Children in Ashanti region cry for play grounds

children-parkThe absence of play grounds in the Kumasi metropolis is beginning to be a source of worry for children in the Ashanti region.

The Amakom Children’s park has over the years served as a busy play ground for children not only in the metropolis, but the region as a whole.

Since the park went out of use, many have raised concerns about children’s psychological development because of lack of play grounds in the region.

Despite its current state, school pupils around the Park still spend their play time there because they have no alternative.

Some Physiologists say children turn to be timid and narrowed in thinking if they do not engage other children from different cultures at a common play ground.

The children who still play on the park are now speaking out as well. They tell rawgist.com they go through a lot of challenges playing in that kind of environment. “I don’t feel happy playing here because this place smells a lot,” one of the children lamented.

Others also fear being bitten by snakes and other wild animals because of the bushy nature of the park.

They also revealed that smokers use the place for their nefarious activities.

The school pupils want a conducive play ground.

“The President must know something about our challenges because Amakom Children’s park is spoilt. We are told that this place was a garden but now it has changed. So we need some facilities at this park,” the children appealed.

A teacher who supervises the children during their play time has also shared similar concerns on the dangers of using the park as a play ground.

He called for the establishment of such facilities in the region.
