Minority spokesperson on agriculture; Dr Akoto Owusu Afriyie has attributed the low cocoa production in Ghana to how the NDC government is cheating cocoa farmers in the country.
He says the price of Ghana’s cocoa on the world market does not match the amount given to farmers who produce the cocoa locally.
Speaking on Royal fm’s morning show, Dr Owusu Afriyie noted that government is supposed to pay GHC 549 instead of the GHC420 it is currently paying.
This he noted is the cause of the low production in the country.
Dr. Akoto also attributed the disparity between Ghana’s cocoa production and that of Ivory Coast to the unavailability of farm inputs and the reduced monies paid Ghanaian farmers.
