COURT JAILS TWO (2) FOR FORGERY AND ABETMENT OF CRIME AGAINST DBS

The Kumasi Circuit Court Two (2) on Tuesday handed a two year jail term each to two persons, Charles Amoah and Evans Nyantakyi for forgery and abetment of crime respectively.
Reading out the sentence to the two, Mrs Patricia Amponsah, the Presiding Judge said the two dabbled in an offence requiring a stiffer punishment but was lenient since this was their first time.
She noted that forgery was criminal and anyone who supports or abets in the same is liable to the same punishment that should be for the one who engaged in the act itself.
For engaging in forgery, the Judge said Charles Amoah, a former distributor at DBS, a roofing sheet manufacturing company, was trying to deny the outfit the revenue due it.
In the case of Evans Nyantakyi, an estimator, the Judge noted that he was abetting in a crime the first defendant was engaged in.
SENTENCES:
The judge thus sentenced the two persons to two (2) years in prison custody each and to a fine of 500 penalty units each.
Failure to pay the penalty units, the Judge served notice that the two would serve additional two years each for the same.
500 penalty units converted in monetary terms is GHC 6, 000.00 and the two are expected to pay 6, 000 each in addition to their two year jail terms.
With bowed heads, the two persons listened to the ruling as was being read out by the Lady Judge.
REACTION:
Speaking to this reporter, Dr Arc David Nyame-Tawiah, Deputy Managing Director at DBS said he was content with the ruling.
He noted that having followed proceedings since the two convicts were arrested by the Police and arraigned before court he could say justice has been served.
Dr Nyame-Tawiah said but for the vigilance of authorities at DBS the company would have lost millions of cedis due to forgery and other criminal activities of some agents.
He urged staff and agents of DBS to learn lessons from the incarceration of the two former agents so that they do not follow the path of greed.
