Court restrains NDC and two affiliates

ndc-rallyAn Accra Fast High Court on Friday restrained the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and two of its affiliates from organizing the youth, women and executive elections in the Ningo Prampram Constituency.

The NDC and two affiliate bodies of the party: the Ningo Constituency and the Greater Accra Regional Executive Committee, who were restrained, had scheduled Constituency Executive Elections on September 8.

The four plaintiffs contended that they had been disqualified from contesting the elections by its Vetting Committee in the Ningo Prampram Constituency.

This was after the court presided over by Mr Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh granted an ex-parte motion filed by four party members. The members are Michael Kwetey Tetteh, John Doku Nartey, John Mensah and Daniel Tetteh Lartey.

The order has 10 days to elapse.

The order came after Mr Godwin Kudzo Tamakloe, counsel for Plaintiffs had gone before the court with an order for an interim injunction against the NDC and its two wings from organizing the women, youth and executive elections in the Ningo Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region pending the determination of a substantive matter.

The four members had gone to court to seek a declaration that their disqualification by the Vetting Committee Constituted by Michael Tetteh and John Doku Nartey was illegal, unlawful and clear violation of Article 42 (1) of the NDC.

According to the plaintiffs, their disqualification was done in breach of the fundamental requirement of natural justice and that they should be given fair hearing.

Plaintiffs were also seeking an order directed at the defendants to allow them to contest the upcoming Constituency Executive Committee Elections at Ningo Prampram as per a memorandum of understanding signed by their Acting Regional organizer, Anthony Nukpenu.
