The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, says some functionaries in the former NDC administration are being hypocritical as far as the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is concerned.
On Joy News’ current affairs programme; Newsfile today, Mr. Baako gave some background to the CSE document and felt that the noise being made about it was not very necessary.
He rehashed the fact that the CSE document has been in this country for some ten years now and is not peculiar to Ghana. He counted out party communicated who he would believe did not know about the document and held that the big men in the NDC are not being very honest in the ongoing discussions about the CSE.
He felt that more explanations are required in order to assuage the fears of opponents of the CSE.
For her part, The Dean of the School of Information and Communications at the University of Ghana; Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo was unhappy that some elements in the society including Moses Foh Amoaning and his organization have narrowed the entire debate to homosexuality. She believes CSE goes beyond conditioning Ghanaian kids to accept homosexuality as is being held by many.
She believes that parents who say they should be left to provide sex education for their kids have already done a very poor job. She says most kids learn about sex and sex-related issues from their peers.
Prof. Gadzekpo believes CSE will help curb pedophilia and other sexual crimes in Ghana.
Government has come under public pressure over claims that it is seeking to execute a secret LGBT agenda through the introduction of CSE.
The guideline document for the teaching of CSE, according to religious organisations and anti-LGBT movement, has topics and modules that run counter to the moral fibre of the Ghanaian society.
Government, however, says it has not approved any such guidelines.
