PRESS RELEASE: VETERAN YOUTH GROUP SUPPORTS CONCERNED YOUTH FOR PROGRESSIVE GHANA TO MOBILISE OVER 300,000 SIGNATURES FOR A NEW AND CREDIBLE VOTER REGISTER.
“A New Credible Register, A Non Negotiable Guarantee For Ghana’s Predictable Better Future! ”
The veteran youth group supports Concerned Youth For Progressive Ghana on the call for a new credible voter register to prevent the country being pushed in post elections conflicts.
As a social group, which is directly concerned with the present and future of our youth of beloved Ghana, we join hands with Concerned Youth For Progressive Ghana (CYPG) to mobilise signatures from homes,workplaces, marketplaces, churches, mosques all over the country for ELECTORAL REFORMS and a NEW CREDIBLE VOTER’s REGISTER.
With recent developments and revelations made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), we are of the view that the current voters’ register contains more unanswered questions regarding the following;
1. Minors
2. Foreigners
3. Scanned pictures.
To encourage and maintain FREE and FAIR polls before, during and after the 2016 elections, we wish to add our voice to others calling the Electoral Commission (EC) to investigate any raised concerns and ensure that Ghana have a NEW and CREDIBLE voters’ register so no particular political party will cry any objective foul after the 2016 general elections results are declared.
The Veteran Youth of Ghana have some questions to ask the EC. These include but not limited to the following;
1. Is the current register over-blotted?
2. Does the current register contain minors?
3. Is the current register infested with foreigners?
4. Does the register have scanned pictures of suspicious characters?
The EC is patriotically asked to provide answers to these questions.
Following the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party’s reaction to the revelations by NPP, and their comments, the Veteran Youth Association have reasons to believe NDC party have a hidden agenda aimed to destabilise the peaceful atmosphere that Ghana has currently been enjoying, eversince. We therefore ask “where the tribal division the NDC is propagating is coming from” whilst the party is not the mouth-piece of the EC. Ghanaians are peace-loving people with our perfect and enviable inter-tribal and inter-religious relationship existing over centuries.
VYA further wish to inquire whether NDC has now replaced EC or has been secretly recruited to speak for the Electoral Commission. to act on their behalf.
The current adopted habit of attacking personalities by political parties must stop. Raised issues should always be objectively dealt with rather than the disgraceful subjective approaches making a renowned country such as Ghana looking like irresponsible and immature
We therefore call on the NDC to speak to issues rather than influencing the unnecessary and dangerous tribal conflicts when Ghanaians are genuinely asking for a new voters’ register that will is credible enough to prevent post election conflicts. Inciting the Volta region, Togo, Northerners of Ghana, Burkina Faso, the Nzemas and Ivorians and some Akans against NPP whilst agitations are only for electoral reforms but not on ethnicity, is not only dangerous but a threat to peace in the entire West African Sub-region.
We call on the Ghana Peace Council, Religious and Civil Organizations, International Bodies and others to caution and admonish NDC to stop the irresponsible and divisive tendencies.
Veteran Youth of Ghana, therefore strongly support the call for a NEW VOTER’s REGISTER and encourage the EC to consider the recommendations put up by the NPP.
May Ghana continue to be the peaceful country loved by everyone across the globe.
Long live Ghana,
Long live The Veterans
Thank you
