The Ashanti Regional Police command has cautioned owners of media houses as well as Producers and Hosts of political talk show programmes against allowing their platforms to be used to spew violence.
The Ashanti regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye in a meeting with talkshow Producers, Hosts, station owners and managers emphasised that owners and operatives of media entities are equally liable as the person who has made inflammatory statement .
“Do not give platform to politicians who spew violence… spoken words can be more dangerous than A.K 47”, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye warned the journalists Wednesday.
He stressed that Hosts and their producers who allow political activists to spark violence will be picked up by police and charges will be pressed against them as well as the politician.
DCOP Kofi Boakye promised a violence free election in the region and assured that there will be enough Policement to protect lives and property before, during and after the elections.
He asked anyone planning to snatch a ballot box to repent of the idea for their own good since it is a treasonable offence.
The Ashanti regional Police Commander also stated that security will be beefed up in a few days as the political atmosphere in the region gets hot.
“The penchant of tagging security personnel must stop…Do not tag me when it does not favour your party. I will continue do my work as a police officer” , DCOP Boakye stressed.
