The former Member of Parliament for Bantama, Lawyer Henry Kwabena Kokofu has charged members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to defend the party at everywhere they find themselves.
According to him, it was incumbent on party members to support the government’s programs and policies as well as defend same at all times.
Addressing delegates as well as party sympathizers at the just ended delegates conference at Banatama, Mr Kokofu reminded party faithful of their primary mandate.
This mandate, he noted is for party faithful to defend the party against any form of attack be it on radio or elsewhere.
He maintained opposition parties, especially the National Democratic Congress(NDC) having realized the NPP was winning the majority of the electorate over with the programs it intends to implement will surely fight against its success.
COCOA POLITICS:
Elaborating further, Mr Kokofu insisted the NDC shortchanged Ghanaian cocoa farmers by deceiving them with paltry increments in the producer price of the crop.
Rather than giving farmers good seeds and seedlings for cultivation, the former legislator said the previous government left farmers to their fate with little support.
Instead, the former MP noted the NDC government succeeded in announcing several producer price increments which in actual fact was dwarfed by the astronomical price of seeds and fertilizer on the market.
According to Mr Kokofu, the NPP was rather resourcing farmers with high yielding cocoa seedlings so as to help increase production and enhance crop yield all year round.
He mentioned the free spraying and free fertilizer application as announced by the NPP government is an initiative to encourage farmers to grow the crop on a larger scale.
CALL FOR CALM:
Adding his voice to the call by the constituency chair, Mr Kwabena Dwomoh as well as the incumbent MP, Mr Daniel Okyem Aboagye and the regional women’s organizer, Nana Ama Ampomah, Mr Kokofu admonished party faithful to be calm and wait patiently for government to roll out its policies and programs.
According to him, President Akufo- Addo was committed to fulfilling every promise he has made to the people of Ghana.
This commitment, he noted is because the president valued his word as well as Ghanaians and would not back-track on anything he pledged to implement.
He, therefore, urged party faithful to rather pray for the president so as to be imbued with the needed wisdom and skill to perform all tasks geared towards building a prosperous Nation.
