Democracy Hub: State drops charges against seven protestors

Seven of the democracy hub protesters have been discharged by the state. This is after 19 of them appeared in court following their release from custody.

Announcing the decision to discontinue the trial against the seven, state attorneys noted that they have filed second batches of disclosures and will on the next adjourned date submit witness statements to the court.

The seven discharged are Kingsley Adiedu, Seth Cofie, Gloria Louis, Nii Quaye Hammond, Manuel Biney, Joseph Dorsese, Ernest Acheampong

The case has been adjourned to November 21, 2024.

Meanwhile, a lawyer for the discharged protestors, Nicholas Normeshie said the state took the right decision as his clients are innocent.

“The state dropped charges against those seven clients and as we have always maintained, my clients were innocent of the charges levelled against them. So, we are happy that the state took the decision to discontinue the case.

“From the position of the state, I doubt they will be rearrested. If not, they would have done that the moment they came out of the court. As lawyers, our objective is to ensure that our clients have liberty and that has been evident today,” he stated.
