The Roman Catholic Basic School which was nearing imminent collapse at Nkruma, a town in the Atwima Mponua District in Ashanti, has finally received support from E.K Agyeman Mining Group Limited.
The company, last Tuesday, at a brief handing over ceremony presented some hundred (100) bags of cement, trips of sand, five (5)packets of roofing sheets and roofing nails to the chief and elders of the town.
Mr Martin Prempeh, Assemblyman for Nkruma- Betinko Electoral Area noted the donation by the group was as a result of an appeal the chiefs and leaders made to the CEO of the mining group recently.
He disclosed that having some concessions in their locality, the community heads decided to approach E.K. Agyeman Mining Group to solicit support for the construction of a three classroom block.
APPEAL:
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper after the presentation, the Assemblyman mentioned the request for support was to enable the school get more space for children at the kindergarten.
According to him, due to lack of space 85 children had been lumped together in the kindergarten class at the school.
On his part, Nana Owusu Asamoah, Regent of Nkruma commended the mining group for heeding to the cry of the school and offering such assistance.
He, however, called on other public spirited organizations and companies to come to the aid of the school since other blocks in the school had similar defects such as the Kindergarten.
RESPONSE:
Nana Yaw Brempong Owusu, speaking on behalf of Mr E.K. Agyeman, Chief Executive Officer for the Mining Group noted the desire of the company to assist communities they conduct their operations.
The company, he disclosed, had constructed similar school facilities for other towns in the locality including a three classroom block, boreholes, and 14 bed teachers block facility for both Atumtum and Nyame Bekyere.
Mpatwam, another town in the community have also gotten their share of the social responsibility projects by EK Agyeman as the town has a three classroom block with a canteen to support.
The mining company, recently, from its own resources bought electricity poles and wired the entire town of Amadaa also in the locality in a bid to connect them to the national electricity grid.
