The President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai says the rate at which breast cancer was spreading in the country makes it imperative for the public to support fund raising efforts by the former President, John Agyekum Kufuor and her outfit to help get treatment for persons who suffer same.
The international cancer surgeon said treatment and care for persons affected with cancers cost a lot, adding that this calls for a concerted effort on both government and the public to support with funds.
Speaking at Jofel Catering Services in Kumasi during the first of two-tier Cocktail and Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Patients with Chairperson, the famous cancer care advocate narrated the ordeal some women go through to deal with the cancer in their breasts.
The BCI leader said many breast cancer patients do not even have money to trek to seek treatment at the hospital, an issue Dr Wiafe tearfully intimated.
PURPOSE OF FUND RAISER:
The purpose of the two-tier fund raiser, Dr Addai said is to secure funds to create more awareness of the disease, breast cancer.
She also noted that persons with breast cancer would be supported with funds to continue their treatment on the disease at hospitals across Ghana.
The famous surgeon used the occasion to pay tribute to some persons and organisations whose sustained support had ensured that BCI reached hinterlands with awareness creation.
She said persons like the owner of Jofel Catering Services, the Ashanti Regional Minister and former Presidents, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Mahama as well as the first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Ecobank Manager for Ashanti and many others had contributed at countless occasions to make outreach programs and cancer treatment for patients possible.
Dr Wiafe also commended Direct-Relief, USA for its immeasurable support of providing 40 footer container loads of medical supplies for health institutions with Bodwesango health center being a recent beneficiary.
ASANTEHENE’S REPRESENTATIVE:
Speaking at the fundraiser, Nana Amanpene Boateng II, Chief of Nyinahini and representative of the Asantehene commended the BCI leader for the unfailing efforts of ensuring the wellbeing of cancer patients and the advocacy against breast cancer.
He noted that the sustained outreach programs of BCI were yielding the necessary dividend since many had now become aware of breast cancer disease.

Speaking to this reporter after the event, Reverend Ransford Obeng, General Overseer of Calvary Charismatic Center lauded the efforts of Dr Wiafe Addai and called on the public to support the fundraising efforts of her outfit.
He said it was laudable that Ghana’s former President John Agyekum Kufuor will be leading the second fund raising efforts in Accra on the 24th of October so as to generate more revenue for the vision of BCI to materialise.
