Don’t sell your votes to politicians cheaply

political-partiesA tutor of English at the Asankrangwa Senior High School, Jerry Seglah is calling on Ghanaians not to mortgage their future into the hands of politicians cheaply.

He defines voting as a decision for self and country towards economic transformation and social wellbeing and wonders why a section of the populace continues to wallow in abject poverty and deprivation.

Speaking in an interview on the essence of voting, the social commentator was saddened that many Ghanaians cast their ballot on partisan lines without scrutinizing the development policies of the various political parties and politicians. He blamed the country’s under development on the perennial induced voting during election years and criticized perpetrators of the act, stressing, “both the giver and the taker have been dishonest and contributed to Ghana’s economic predicament.

He urged Ghanaians to do a thorough reading of the various Party manifestos which are useful tools for promoting issues-based campaigns and elections and promoting inclusive governance. Jerry Seglah blamed the dying spirit of citizen vigilantism in the Ghanaian to unnecessary politicization of issues and people’s opinions which he said kills our sense of initiative towards contributing to national development. “It is unfortunate that a person’s suggestions on economic management and national development are giving political and partisan twists and this is a bad recipe for national disaster if the situation remains the same. Some Ghanaian experts declined presidential invitations to serve in successive governments due to the negative implications of partisan politics which they say has led to victimization of previous government functionaries.

Jerry Seglah is therefore calling for a national re-orientation to influence minds and behavior of all Ghanaians.
