A car crash at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) last night left the driver of a commercial van(trotro) and a few other passengers seriously wounded.
The accident which occurred at an intersection popularly known as Agric junction at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was between the trotro and a white pick-up truck.
The victims had been rushed to the University Hospital by the time rawgist.com got to the crowded scene.
The white Nissan hard body pick-up truck did not seem to have suffered a lot of damage except for a broken windscreen and a slightly disfigured bonnet. The minivan(trotro) however had the entire bonnet exposed and some of the contents out.
Eye witnesses say the accident occurred due to a lack of communication between the two drivers as the truck which was coming from Ayeduase sought to turn left to the faculty area of the university whiles the trotro was also heading towards Ayeduase.
Many suggested another look at the way the traffic lights on that junction are programmed.
Although Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were present at the scene when rawgist.com got there, many of the witnesses and onlookers were angry at the length of time it took them to arrive at the scene. One of them said it took close to an hour for them to arrive; a situation that they say led to more trauma for those who were hurt and trapped in the front seat of the “trotro”.
Meanwhile, there is a fire station inside KNUST just a few minutes from the accident scene.
