Zipline, the operators of Ghana Health Services (GHS) drone technology is to have flight and deployment centers across the country by the end of this year.
The outfit currently operates from its permanent and first site at Omenako, a town close to Suhum in the Eastern Region.
Addressing a cross section of news editors in the Ashanti Region, Naa Adorkor Yawson,-Systems Operations Lead Officer for Zipline Ghana said the idea behind the establishment of drone centers is to ensure that medical supplies can be deployed across all health centers in Ghana.
She stressed that Zipline is able to serve all health centers in the Eastern Region including the remotest part of Afram Plains.
DETAILS:
The operations manager said Zipline had in stock 20 brand new drones specially designed to convey medical supplies to all the health centers which are on the GHS radar.
But currently, Madam Yawson said the Zipline is carrying out the medical deliveries with 10 of the drones.
Zipline, she revealed has been carrying out 150 flights per day and noted the deliveries have been possible with the assistance of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The drone facility, the operations manager mentioned is able to launch out multiple drones to carry out deliveries across the sites drawn by the GHS to receive supplies.
MAINTENANCE:
Answering questions from the media, Madam Yawson said the battery and wings of the drones are removed immediately they complete a cycle of the delivery process.
For every flight, the drones are re-assembled before they are deployed to carry out deliveries in the designated health facilities, the Operation manager posited.
She noted that Zipline carries out a comprehensive monthly maintenance of the drones and other related equipment.
The strict maintenance regime, she indicated is to enable Zipline look out or identify faults and other system hiccups.
