The body tasked to retrieved state cars from former government officials has disclosed that actor John Dumelo will be charged with stealing a state vehicle.
The actor, according to the task force, will be charged and arraigned before court for attempting to remodel a state vehicle.
Kwame Baffoe, Supervisor of the Task Force on the Retrieval of State Assets speaking on News Night on Joy FM explained the circumstances under which the vehicle worth $150,000 was retrieved.
He said the actor was remodelling the vehicle, a V8 Toyota Land Cruiser with registration GE 8118 –16, at a Fitting Shop and after a tip-off security operatives went to the scene and “the Chasses number and everything clearly showed that the government of Ghana is clearly the importer of the vehicle in question.”
He revealed that after the actor was called, John Dumelo said former First Lady Lordina Mahama gave him the vehicle and that he had no document to cover the vehicle in question.
Asked the next line of action, Mr Baffoe revealed that, “the officers involved, we have the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) [and] the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), they are building a docket on that and at the appropriate time, he will be arraigned before court. He should be charged for theft because this is a criminal offence.”
The Supervisor of the Task Force also revealed that they have obtained the Chasses number of a second vehicle linked to the actor and they are currently searching for it.
